A Gallery Show is especially fun for me to do.  As the invited artist, it gives me a chance to get to know the Gallery reps, and to also meet the Clients who collect my work.  During the reception, I get to do lots of "dedications" on the backs of paintings for clients who have a particular something they'd like me to write.  Sometimes I bring a half finished painting to work on so the Gallery Staff and Collectors can see my technique and interesting style up-close.  Overall, a Gallery Show is a time for people to meet the artist, listen to great music, sample hors'dvores, and talk art!
